About the Book

The visions of the sleeping bard is a poetic allegory that reflects deeply on moral and spiritual questions through a series of vivid, dreamlike visions. The work explores human frailty, presenting the struggle between vice and virtue in symbolic and imaginative forms. Through surreal sequences, the narrative guides readers across visions of worldly temptation, the inevitability of death, and the fearsome consequences of moral failure. These scenes are not simply fantastical, but serve as meditations on repentance, faith, and the soul’s longing for salvation. Rich in symbolism and poetic intensity, the book invites contemplation of life’s fleeting nature and the choices that shape spiritual destiny. Its original blend of introspection, allegory, and religious reflection gives it a timeless quality, offering readers an imaginative journey toward moral awakening and deeper understanding of the human condition. The visions remain powerful not because of plot, but because of their universal insight into conscience, redemption, and spiritual hope.

About Author

Ellis Wynne

Ellis Wynne was a Welsh clergyman and author, remembered primarily for creating one of the most important and influential works in Welsh-language literature, Gweledigaetheu y Bardd Cwsc. Born on 7 March 1671 in Gwynedd, Wales, he grew up in an environment shaped by faith, learning, and cultural tradition. Guided by his parents, Edward Wynne and Margaret Wynne, he developed a strong religious foundation that later informed both his ministry and his writing. Wynne became known for blending spiritual devotion with imaginative literary expression, using allegory and poetic symbolism to explore the moral struggles of humanity. His most notable work presents dreamlike visions that confront temptation, virtue, judgment, and the soul’s search for redemption. Through vivid imagery and reflective prose, Wynne offered readers meditations on conscience, mortality, and salvation. His contribution remains significant not only for its theological depth but also for its enduring place in Welsh cultural heritage. Ellis Wynne died on 13 July 1734 at the age of 63 in Llanfair, Wales, leaving behind a legacy tied to spiritual insight and literary influence.
