About Author

Sarojini Naidu

Sarojini Naidu was an Indian political activist and poet who made significant contributions to the Indian independence movement. Born on 13 February 1879 in Hyderabad, she pursued her early education at Nizam College and later studied at King's College London from 1895 to 1898. Her exposure to both Indian and Western education influenced her political thinking and literary style. She was known for her poetry that highlighted themes of Indian culture, nature, and national identity. As a prominent figure in the freedom struggle, she worked closely with key leaders and was actively involved in movements such as the Civil Disobedience Movement. After independence, she became the first Governor of the United Provinces, marking a historic moment as the first woman to hold a gubernatorial post in independent India. She was married to Muthyala Govindarajulu Naidu and had five children: Padmaja Naidu, Leelamani Naidu, Jayasurya Naidu, Randheer Naidu, and Nilawar Naidu. Her siblings included Harindranath Chattopadhyay. Sarojini Naidu passed away on 2 March 1949 in Lucknow at the age of 70, leaving behind a legacy of literary excellence and political courage.
