About the Book

Colville Of The Guards Vol. I is a historical novel set in the Scottish countryside, focusing on two individuals who live independently on a small estate. The story explores the challenges they face as they navigate romantic entanglements and societal pressures. Their relationships with suitors, particularly a military officer, test their desire for independence against the expectations placed on them by society. The individuals' emotional struggles are heightened by the complexities of love, duty, and personal freedom. They find themselves caught between the demands of social recognition and their own need to maintain autonomy. The narrative highlights the tension between the pursuit of personal happiness and the responsibilities that come with societal expectations. As the individuals interact with various characters, including an ambitious woman and a visiting aristocrat, they reflect on their place in the world and the sacrifices required for love and independence. The novel also explores themes of class, social status, and the resilience required to stand firm in the face of external pressure. Set against a rich and scenic backdrop, it portrays the complexities of rural life and the personal choices that define the characters’ journey.
